Do you struggle to optimize your content and copywriting with the most niche-specific keywords for your audience? In this post, I’m sharing my tips for planning content and choosing the best keywords for your content that will help you grow your visibility *by planning ahead* and the process of planning content that will help you stay organized.

Planning ahead is a key factor in creating valuable content that sticks. Researching keywords, focusing on creating content that provides an outcome-based solution for your ideal reader, and creating a consistent schedule to grow that know-like and trust factor with your audience will help your visibility and organic growth.

Planning content and keywords for sticky content to grow your visibility

Planning content and marketing is one of the most important pieces of your business because that is how you are building like, know, and trust with your audience, and it’s how we’re presenting our expertise. It is crucial that that is our main focus for the week so we have content that can be repurposed and shared in other places.

If you aren’t creating content and marketing it, or even optimizing content for SEO to maximize your efforts, how do you expect to grow an online business or even get website traffic? Content is part of showing up for your audience. It is the free value they are getting that you are giving away.

If you aren’t creating content and marketing it, or even optimizing content for SEO to maximize your efforts, how to you expect to grow an online business or even get website traffic?

Planning content that grows your visibility with keywords

Here are 3 ways to plan content step-by-step to help you choose the best keywords to add to your content that will help you grow organically.

1. Batch research keywords

Researching keywords ahead of time eliminates the extra work when you’re creating content. It makes it so much simpler to wake up on content creation day, look at your keyword spreadsheet, and just focus on writing.

Content creation day means eliminating as many tasks and distractions as possible. That means closing all browser tabs that you’re not currently using, leaving your phone in another room, and making yourself unavailable until your content is created.

Make sure keywords are niche-specific

The keywords should be niche-specific to YOUR audience. If you have older content that doesn’t quite fit your audience, or the keywords aren’t niche specific, try to figure out a way to edit it and insert niche-specific keywords to cater it to your audience.

Inside a spreadsheet, create the categories you have on your website. Under your high-volume keyword terms (the highly competitive keywords should be used as your blog categories), search for low-competitive keywords that relate to your categories and save them to the sheet under the related category.

Planning content and creating title outlines for future content

How far out you want to research keywords is up to you. I find it to be the easiest and less stressful if I’m planning content about a month out. In a separate Google sheet, I create title outlines or “title placeholders” for my content. Creating title outlines just gives you a rough idea of what your content is going to be about. After you have written your content you can get a better idea of what your title should be and the keywords that need to be put into the title for SEO.

2. What is the outcome/result of your content

The whole focus of your content should be giving your reader the solution. Every piece of content that you create should have an end goal of giving your reader a valuable solution that they can apply to their current problem right now so it can take them to the next step. You want to make your content a valuable asset for your reader. We do that by making problem-solving content.

If you’re struggling to create problem-solving content, it might help you to outline the solution piece of your content first. Writing your solution first can be done in list form, steps, or paragraph. However you are presenting your content.

Every piece of content that you publish HAS to have a purpose. If that content is not solving your reader’s problem, that content isn’t going to be very valuable.

2. Create a content calendar

If you’re really wanting to make an income whether you’re just blogging, offering services, digital products, etc., it is important to develop an easy schedule for you to stay consistent with. It’s okay to give yourself a large window to create content.

Give yourself some grace and time to create content and know that there are no obligations or requirements to be a content creation robot. In other words, focus on building consistency first, then think about increasing later.

Planning content and creating a content calendar

Decide how many pieces of content you can easily prepare and revise for the week you are publishing on. The rule is to stay consistent with whatever amount that you choose.

If you decide on creating and publishing one piece of content every week, stick with that. So, if you are just starting a blog, start with one piece of content a week for a couple months. At least until you know your productivity level.

Sometimes it’s easy to expect too much out of ourselves, but you need to be realistic. Always keep things as simple as you can. Building growth takes time and patience. Especially on those days when it seems like there is no growth or no progress.

Don’t give up

There are definitely going to be days when it’s super easy to look at things and get discouraged. You might think that what your doing is never going to work. That’s definitely the moment when people usually give up. But if you keep going and stick with your strategy, you will start seeing growth and traffic.
