Do you have an online business idea that you’re considering but aren’t sure if it’s needed? Are you wondering how to verify the idea so you aren’t spinning your wheels? There are 5 simple ways to get those answers friend! I’m going to share ways on just how you can get your idea validated as a solopreneur so you’re not left guessing.
Validating an online business idea as a solopreneur
Let me first impress that getting an online business idea validated has little to do with how saturated a niche or market is. Marketing your offer or products has everything to do with how you have positioned yourself and your marketing strategy.
You might hear people saying “That market is so saturated. You have to work really hard to get clients, or “It’s so hard to get clients. So many solopreneurs are doing it”. It’s so easy to get discouraged before you even start researching anything because of people saying it’s not worth it.
Before you research your online business idea, there are two important action steps you need to take first.
1. Figure out exactly what you are offering before you research
- Narrow your list down to the ONE thing you’re going to offer. You can’t serve everyone.
- Focus on the 3 ones. ONE problem, ONE solution, ONE ideal client. Keep it simple.
- To grow something, start with ONE thing. If you overcomplicate it, it will either take forever to grow, or it won’t gain any kind of traction.
- Keep to that ONE main thing for a year and you can build on that.
2. Figure out the niche/avatar (ideal client) that you are serving
- Get to know your ideal client on a deeper level.
- Find out their struggles, wins, likes, dislikes, what they want most, fears, desires, etc.
- Find out if your offer is something that would solve your ideal client’s number 1 struggle.
When you’ve completed those action steps, then you can move on to the research process.
1. Research FB groups
- Type in keywords in the Facebook search part of the group
- Scroll through and research the feed to see what exactly others are asking and how they are asking.
- Do polls in FB groups. Not just any group. Make sure you are in a group that is your niche. (Make sure you are following group rules).
2. Do 1:1s with people that would fit your ideal client avatar
- Take note of any keywords or phrases that they use. You can use this information in other ways to get your answers.
- Offer an Amazon or Starbucks gift card in exchange for their time meeting with you and answering your questions.
- Create a questionnaire using Google form (free to use) and offer a gift card that way, and do a giveaway. Post in Facebook groups that have your ideal audience.
3. Research keywords to get related keywords
- Google will give you some practical tips on what is being typed in. Pay attention to the related or suggest searches too.
- Ubersuggest and SEMrush are both great to use for keyword research. Both have free versions to get you started.
- Pay attention to the related keywords that come up. Those are prime real estate and you can use those related keywords to your advantage in future content that you create
- Track the keywords that you are searching. Use a Google spreadsheet to track those keywords.
4. Answer the public
This website gives you hundreds to thousands of keyword ideas and topics specific to the phrase that you type in the search.
5. Pinterest
- Type keywords in the search and pay attention to the colored tabs at the top. Click the colored tabs to get more detailed information and related topics.
- Act like you’re creating an ad (you really not creating an ad) and scroll and type in keywords and the search results for those specific keywords will spit out related keywords that are more popular.
Researching might seem like it’s going to take you longer to get started, but realistically, you will save yourself so much time and less confusion if you know that you are building an offer or service that people for sure want rather than just going with it and hoping it works out
Don’t skip the first 2 steps! Work on narrowing down your list to just one main offer. Really figure out what that ONE quality solution is that you are going to provide. As a solopreneur, it is important to connect your solution (offer) to the niche (ideal client) that you are serving. Make sure that those two gaps are filled in before you go on to the next steps. I’d love to know if these steps are helpful and what you found out about your ideal client. Leave your comment below!
